Because We Car Care

Hey, we'll be liveblogging the WVU-UNC game today. We might do the WVU-tOSU basketball game later today. It really all depends, ya know?

We're most likely going to go without Sidney Glover and Brandon Hogan on defense. But we are deep at safety and cornerback, and by this time of the year if you don't know what you are supposed to do there are bigger problems than injuries. I don't expect a drop off because we have a pretty good defensive coordinator in Jeff Casteel. He and the 3-3-5 have taken a lot of crap over the years, but he's really proven himself this year after losing eight starters.

Something that doesn't matter at all but worth mentioning, WVU is 1-5 against Butch Davis and 0-1 against UNC.

We're not into doing a big preview of the game. We'd rather just go with it. But check here, here, and here if you're into that type stuff. Look here, here, and here for the UNC side of things.

We All Just Need to Relax and Give Stew the Bene...WHAT?!?!?

If anyone can tell me what this was in reference to, I would be very eager to learn!
We've got enough coal in the state of West Virginia to heat the world. We've got enough oil in the state of West Virginia to lubricate the world. We've got enough brains in the state of West Virginia...to run the world.
I had been mulling over a post about how we need to all calm down and stop calling for the firing of Bill Stewart. How it would be in the best interest of the program to have some stability. But without the context of those words, I'm just going to hold off on that post.

Maybe this will shed some light.

I have no idea what that meant, but Stewart, who is a powerful and effective speaker, was bothered and he bit back. Could be the media. Could be the fans. Could be the people who call his talk show. Could be all three.

He keeps up on what people say and write about his team and he cares what people think. Was this an accumulation, a reaction or just calculated?

It was a little awkward, but I enjoyed the entire scene, even the parting shot. Part of me — a big part, in fact — likes Stewart’s class and restraint. Few people in his profession are like him and that’s refreshing. It’s not fair to criticize that side of his personality because it’s genuine. It is who he is. Not only that, but he was pretty calm when he 48-28′d Oklahoma.

Still, another part of me thinks he is, at times, too cool and the fire that burned so hot leading up to the Fiesta Bowl hasn’t been here at all times this season. WVU has lacked an edge and I think that’s contributed to slow starts. I also think there’s an edge in the second half, so perhaps something is said at halftime. IrRegardless, he’s heated up the past few weeks and the nature of that Pitt loss must have had his blood boiling. We saw enough Stewart to heat the world.

Mr. Rogers Lauds Democracy in Sunny Morgantown

If there is one thing we should all love about Bill Stewart, it's that he wears his heart on his sleeve. He doesn't use the phrase, "so on and so forth and things of that nature" to gobble up time and say something without saying anything. There's nothing cryptic about the words he uses. If he thinks you're a son of a bitch, he's going to tell you. Success aside, it's refreshing considering what the last seven years were like. And there's no reason to believe that success won't continue.

Stewart has been mostly all rainbows and unicorns during fall camp so far. But that ended yesterday.

Drawing Stewart’s ire was the defense’s inability to shed blockers and consistently get ball carriers on the ground.

“The defense had better stop reading their press clippings because they got knocked around today,” Stewart said....

“At the end of the day we did some down-ups and some up-downs; we bonded as brothers and everyone clapped hands and everyone left and was mad at Mister Rogers,” Stewart said. “You need 33 people. You need 11 on offense and 11 on defense and 11 on special teams. The rest of them are going to do exactly what we say, when we say it, without asking why we say it. They will be coached by us, and they will play. Isn’t that a great democracy we have here in sunny Morgantown, West Virginia?”

If anyone wants to help me on a down-up or an up-down, please chime in. I'm only practiced in the in-out-in-out. (Probably NSFW)

I've completely lost my train of thought after watching that.....oh yeah, Bill Stewart....democracy. Fears put to rest that he was an old softy. College football world domination continuing as planned.

Post Holiday Links

I think, like everyone else, I had a little too much fun over the long weekend. And I'm not quite ready to get into anything new. And I'll be on the road for the next few days. So anything new might not be in the cards. But I am planning on revamping the Early Crack Pipe Predictions, which I plan on rolling out as soon as I get back. Well, as soon as I can score some crack. It helps! Really, it does! Villanova, you're up first. And please don't take it too seriously when you see your mascot with a crack pipe.

On to the links:

This Bill Stewart guy is quite opinionated these days. I'm cool with his view on playoffs, and the out of bounds rule. I'm not real hip on his open letter backing WVU President Mike Garrison. But considering that's who hired him (WVU's AD is not at all in the loop when it comes to hiring or negotiating contracts with coaches), I guess if he was going to say anything it would be positive. There's a reason we call him smiling Bill.

I'm a crack head, but this post makes me think I'm a genius or something. Really? Pat White was hiding behind Rodriguez? Yeah, it's so bad it has been deleted.

Joe Paterno as only Adam Jacobi can bring it.
